Stainless steel becomes more and more popular in our daily life and production industry because of its unique properties. The steel which is stainless and resistant to slight corrosion medium like air, steam and water is called stainless steel, while the steel that resists chemical corrosion medium like acid, alkali and salt is called acid resistant stainless steel.

There are several series of stainless steel like series 200, 300, 400, 500 and 600, but the most common are series 200 and 300 like 201, 202, 304 and 316. Because of the difference in metal elements, series 200 has poor corrosion resistance. Some dishonest seller replace series 300 with series 200, which will save much cost and earn more money but the product quality is really bad. Then how to recognize if the stainless steel is real stuff?
First we can use stainless test solution. If you buy SS 304, use the type 304 test solution or Ni8 test solution. If the solution turns to fuchsia, that means this product is made from steel with high manganese content or low quality stainless steel with poor corrosion resistance, so called series 200.
The quality of stainless steel is according to not only the chemical content, but also the tissue, property and purity degree. So the test solution has nothing to do with these factors. This require us to use spectrograph which can test the content of stainless steel and then judge if it’s 201 or 304. This is the scientific and effective method and it has authenticity and authority.
But what can we do if we don’t have a spectrograph. In our daily life, we can judge the material by using a magnet. Stainless doesn’t have magnetism, if you can suck the product with a magnet, it means that the product is not made from stainless steel.
