Plastic hose is synthetic chemical construction material. Most important, it’s the fourth emerging material after steel, wood and concrete. However, the most hoses we access are regular hoses such as PE, PP and PVC. Other hoses like PPS, PPO and PC are special plastic hoses. While they are mostly used in high technology applications like auto, aerospace, national defense and communication.

Density
Prepare some water, then put the hose in. Watch the status on hose and we can know the material roughly. For example, if the hose float on the surface, we can know it’s not PVC. Because the density of PVC is over 1.
Burn
This is main check the fire color and fume. Generally speaking, the fire color of polyolefin after burning is blue or light blue. In the meantime, the smell is gentle and light. While the fume is white. But there will be black fume and strong smell from benzene and chlorine. Besides, there will be drip fire for PE and PP. While PVC will self distinguish.
Optics
Optics method is to check the transparency of materials. The general transparent materials are normally PS and PC. While the semi transparent materials are PE, PP and soft PVC. While others are not transparent.
Color
In general, for the non-additive material, if it have double bond itself, then the color will be a light yellow.
