In cold areas, PE hoses are usually more suitable than PVC hoses for the following reasons:
Low temperature resistance
PE hoses
PE material has good low temperature resistance. Therefore, it can still maintain good flexibility and elasticity in cold environments. Even if used for a long time under low temperature conditions, PE hoses are not easy to become hard, brittle or cracked, and can normally perform their water delivery functions.
PVC hoses
PVC materials tend to become hard and brittle in low temperature environments. This is because the glass transition temperature of PVC itself is relatively high. Low temperature will reduce the mobility of its molecular chain, resulting in a significant decrease in the flexibility and impact resistance of the material. When used in cold areas, PVC layflat hose may become brittle due to low temperatures, affecting normal use. It may even break easily when impacted or bent by external forces.
Antifreeze performance
PE hoses
PE hoses have certain antifreeze properties. When the water in the hose freezes, the PE hose can withstand a certain degree of ice expansion pressure without breaking. This is because its flexibility and elasticity can buffer the expansion force of ice to a certain extent. This reduces the risk of damage to the hose due to freezing.
PVC hose
PVC hose has relatively poor antifreeze performance. Because it hardens at low temperatures, when the water in the hose freezes and expands, the PVC hose is difficult to withstand the ice expansion pressure and is prone to rupture. Once the hose ruptures, it will not only affect the normal water delivery operation, but may also cause problems such as water resource waste and equipment damage.
In summary, PE hose has more advantages in low temperature resistance and antifreeze performance, so it is more suitable for use in cold areas. However, whether it is PE hose or PVC hose, the accumulated water in the hose should be drained in time after use in cold weather and stored properly. This is the only way to extend the service life of the hose.
